5th November 2009 - South Yorkshire firefighters suspend strike action.

South Yorkshire Fire Brigades Union has called off strike action due to commence at 6pm last night, after both sides of the dispute agreed to hold talks through the instrustrial nediator, ACAS.

26th October 2009 - Two hundred residents evacuate fire danger.

Tow hundred residents were evacuated from their homes in Sheffield early this morning as a blaze ripped through 2 garages and a pizza takeaway. The fire on Staniforth Road, Darnall was believed to have started at around 2.15am although the exact cause of the fire in unknown as yet, and investigations into its cause continue.

25th October 2009 - Baroness Warsi in Sheffield.

Tory life peer Baroness Sayeeda Warsi visited Sheffield Chamber of Commerce to discuss the economic challenges facing business leaders in Sheffield. Baroness Warsi announced that she is set to become the Minister for Sheffield & Community Cohesion if the Tories win the next election 

14th October 2009 - Man charged with murder of Cheryl Martin;

Gordon White has been arrested over the murder of Cheryl Martin of Stag Lane, Rotherham. Cheryl's body was found by police officers after they were called to an incident last weekend at the home she shared with her long-term partner Gordon White. A post morterm has confirmed that Cheryl died of multiple stab wounds. Mr White is due to appear before Sheffield Crown Court next week on the charge of murder.

24th September 2009 - President sets new priorities;

SHEFFIELD Chamber of Commerce's newly elected president, Nick Tovey has made survival of Sheffield's business community and encouraging more firms to explore international trade and environmental opportunities his top priorities for the coming year. Mr Tovey, from Wardell Armstrong, the independent engineering consultancy which specialises in environmental development and management, was speaking at the Chamber's annual general meeting, after taking over as president from Hermann Beck. Sheffield businesses were not out of the recession yet and would need help in the coming months.
